Neck/ cervical pain may be a result of a facet joint restriction, muscular spasm or a disc prolapse.
A cervical (neck) disc herniation or facet lock can cause back pain, arm/ shoulder ache and restricted movement. If the nerve is irritated or compressed then a shooting pain into the arm and hand can occur with possible tingling, numbness and weakness. Other symtoms may include headaches, fatigue and pain in a specific range of movment.
Causes
Repetitive forward/ extension or side bending of the spine, particularly if rotating at the same time
Whiplash/ Road Traffic Accidents (see whiplash section)
Habitual slumped seated posture
Heavy lifting
Violent trauma (sports / road traffic accidents)
Biomechanical mal-lignment / Flat feet. (See Orthotics)
